Rainbow Connection” is a popular song written by Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher and originally performed by Kermit the Frog (Jim Henson) in The Muppet Movie in 1979. By extension, as evidenced in the TV special, The Muppets at Walt Disney World, the song has come to epitomize the ideals and artistic spirit of Henson and his company as much as “When You Wish Upon a Star” represents Walt Disney and his company.

Black Horse & The Cherry Tree

“Black Horse & The Cherry Tree” By KT Tunstall is a fun little ditty.

Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” (commonly written with an ampersand) is a song by Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall and is featured on her debut album, Eye to the Telescope. It was released on 21 February 2005 as the lead single from the album, charting at #28 in the UK Singles Chart (see 2005 in British music). It is one of many songs that reuses the famous Bo Diddley beat from the influential 1955 song of the same name.

The song is a playable track in the music video game Band Hero.

Big Shot

by kissingermd on Dec.16, 2009, under Song of the day, Uncategorized

“Big Shot” By Billy Joel reminds me of younger days.

Big Shot” was the second hit single from Billy Joel’s 1978 album 52nd Street. The song was released in early-1979, just as his other hit single from that same album, “‘My Life”, was peaking at #3. It would soon become his second top-twenty hit of 1979, peaking at #14.

A rumor that the song was based on a bad date with Bianca Jagger is not true. In an interview in 2006, Billy Joel said, “I read that the song Big Shot is said to be about a date I had with Bianca Jagger. I never had a date with Bianca Jagger.”

Party in the U.S.A.

by kissingermd on Dec.09, 2009, under Song of the day, Uncategorized

“Party in the U.S.A.” By Miley Cyrus. You got to love a good pop song.

Party in the U.S.A.” is a pop song performed by American recording artist Miley Cyrus. The song was written by Lukasz Gottwald, Claude Kelly and Jessica Cornish, and produced by Gottwald. Released as the lead single from Cyrus’ second extended play The Time of Our Lives, it served as promotion for her Wal-Mart clothing line with Max Azria. The song was scheduled to be released to mainstream radio on August 3, 2009, but the release date was changed to July 29 following an unauthorized leak on the Internet. “Party in the U.S.A.” is a mid-tempo song and has prominent pop rock characteristics. The song’s lyrics evoke Cyrus’ move from Nashville, Tennessee to Los Angeles, California.

The song garnered commercial success for Cyrus in several nations, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and the United States. In the Billboard Hot 100, the song reached its highest international peak at number two due to strong digital sales that placed it at number one on Hot Digital Songs. The song became her best charting single, first number one on Hot Digital Songs and Hollywood Records’ fastest selling song. The song reached number one on the Billboard Pop 100 chart on October 30th, 2009. The song has stayed in the top ten of the Hot 100 for 14 weeks beating out The Climb’s eight weeks.

You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine

by kissingermd on Dec.08, 2009, under Uncategorized

“You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine” By Lou Rawls is one of my favorite tunes.

You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine” (written by Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff) is a song performed by R&B singer Lou Rawls on his 1976 album All Things in Time. The song proved to be Rawls’ breakthrough hit, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the R&B and Easy Listening charts. The single also reached number four on the dance chart. It was the only Rawls’ record to reach Billboard’s pop top ten. It was the first big hit for Philadelphia International to feature the reformulated MFSB, after many of the original members left Gamble and Huff for better opportunities.  The song started Rawls’ live shows from 1977 on.

The single went on to sell over a million copies and was certified gold by the RIAA.

“You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine” has been covered by singers Michael Bublé, Laura Pausini reggae legend John Holt and most recently the Dub Pistols (who use a sample of John Holt’s version) on their Speakers and Tweeters album. This song was also featured on The Proud Family Soundtrack.

It can also be heard in the films, The Hot Chick (2002), Guess Who (2005), Disturbia (2007) Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs(2009), and Pokémon: Mewtwo Returns (2000)
