Happy Christmas (War Is Over)

by kissingermd on Dec.23, 2009, under Song of the day

“Happy Christmas (War Is Over) By John Lennon is one of my favorite Christmas songs. Side Note, I was alive in the world when they recorded this song. Man I’m getting older.

Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” is a Christmas song by John Lennon, Yoko Ono and the Plastic Ono Band. It was recorded at Record Plant Studios in New York City in late October 1971, with the help of producer Phil Spector. It features soaring, heavily echoed vocals, and a sing-along chorus. The children singing in the background were from the Harlem Community Choir and are credited on the song’s single.

Although the song is a protest song about the Vietnam War, it has become a Christmas standard and has appeared on several Christmas albums.

Kodachrome

by kissingermd on Dec.18, 2009, under Song of the day

“Kodachrome’ By Paul Simon is fun song. I have to tell you. This one is for my Dad that taught me the right lyrics. When I was young I sang Cordless phone in place of Kodachrome. Funny, but true.

Kodachrome” is a song written and recorded by Paul Simon. It appeared on his 1973 album There Goes Rhymin’ Simon.

The song is named after the Kodak 35mm film Kodachrome. The song became a major hit in the United States, peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart as well as the Billboard adult contemporary chart, but it was not released as a single in Britain because, according to American Top 40host Casey Kasem, the British Broadcasting Corporation would not play the trademarked name.

Kodak required the album to note that Kodachrome is a trademark of Kodak. In the late 1990s, Kodak used the song in commercials to sell film.

The lyrics on There Goes Rhymin’ Simon differed in wording from those on the The Concert in Central Park and Paul Simon’s Concert in the Park, August 15, 1991 albums. The former said, “…everything looks worse in black and white,” but the latter said, “…everything looks better in black and white.”

What’s Love Got to Do With It

by kissingermd on Nov.20, 2009, under Song of the day

“Whats Love Got to Do With It” By Tina Turner is mixed very well. I love the dance between the music and her vocals. What do you like or not like about this song?

What’s Love Got to Do with It” is the second single released from Tina Turner’s breakthrough solo debut album, Private Dancer. In the UK and Continental Europe it was the third single, following Turner’s cover of The Beatles’ “Help!”. The song is widely credited for the huge success of the Private Dancer album itself. “What’s Love Got to Do With It” is arguably Tina Turner’s most popular and successful single, becoming her first number-one hit in the United States and establishing Tina Turner as a mainstream Pop and Rock artist, while also reaching number one in Australia and number three in the UK. In 1993, the song’s name was used as the title for What’s Love Got to Do With It?, a biographical film about Turner’s life leading up to the actual release of the song. The music video was directed by Mark Robinson. It is ranked #309 on the Rolling Stone magazine’s list of “the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time”. It also ranked #38 on Songs of the Century. It was the 17th best-selling single of 1984 in the UK.
